SUMMARY:The Gun Debate
DESCRIPTION:Scalia Law commemorates Constitution Day on September 12 at noon with a webinar featuring two Second Amendment experts who will discuss the U.S. Supreme Court’s recent decision in New York State Rifle and Pistol Association v. Bruen. The law school will welcome Darrell A. H. Miller\, Melvin G. Shimm Professor of Law at Duke University School of Law\, and Amy Swearer\, Legal Fellow\, Edwin Meese III Center for Legal and Judicial Studies at The Heritage Foundation. \nBruen held that New York’s proper-cause requirement for obtaining an unrestricted license to carry a concealed firearm violated the Fourteenth Amendment because it prevented law-abiding citizens with ordinary self-defense needs from exercising their Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms. \nAdmission to the webinar is by registration only.
