DESCRIPTION:CASA Volunteering Update: Update for all of those interested in being a Court Appointed Special Advocate with CASA. There will be a volunteer interest meeting THIS WEDNESDAY\, March 2nd at 6pm on Zoom. Sign up for the meeting here and I will send a Zoom link. If you are unable to attend\, I will try to have the session recorded.  \nVolunteer with CASA VA (Court Appointed Special Advocates for Children). Court Appointed Special Advocates are members of the community who receive extensive education and training in order to advocate for abused and neglected children—who through no fault of their own—are thrust into juvenile and domestic relations court and often\, into foster care. \nVolunteer Responsibilities:\nCASA volunteers advocate for the best interests of an abused or neglected child who is under the protection of the Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court. The role of a CASA volunteer is to: Investigate the circumstances of the case; Submit to the court a written report of the investigation; Monitor the case to ensure compliance with court orders; Assist the Guardian Ad Litem (GAL) if one has been appointed; and Report allegations of abuse or neglect to the Department of Social Services.

DESCRIPTION:Doorways Domestic Violence Volunteers: Doorways creates pathways out of homelessness\, domestic violence\, and sexual assault leading to safe\, stable\, and empowered lives. \nPlease note that all individual volunteers must be at least 18 years of age. All volunteer positions require a minimum one-year commitment (two shifts per month). Volunteers working directly with clients must complete 40+ hours of training and a background check. If you’re interested in volunteering with Doorways\, please complete our online Volunteer Application Form. It will help us learn a little bit about you\, your interests and your background. DESCRIPTION:This conference will bring together top law and religion scholars\, litigators\, and policy experts to explore: the goods and values that religious exercise furthers\, including institutional religious exercise; how religious values can not only serve\, but even better promote the values of equality\, dignity\, and freedom as currently articulated by the state; and how religious institutions might better understand and communicate the social worth of religion and religious freedom. DESCRIPTION:Join us on Sunday\, March 27th at 4 PM for a joint event between the Society for Environmental and Energy Law (SEEL) and the Immigration Law Society (ILS). Meet us on the patio for snacks\, then we will metro to DC. \nThe SEEL Discussion at the beginning of the event will be centered around “The Plant and Quarantine Act of 1912: Cherry Blossoms and Invasive Species.” SEEL members will discuss the history of the Cherry Blossoms at the Tidal Basin in Washington\, DC\, and how the gifting of the trees led to the passage of one of the earliest federal invasive species legislation in our country. The ILS group will conduct a guided discussion at the end of the event about immigration law in DC and Japanese immigration in general. \nWe will take a tour through the Cherry Blossoms during peak bloom. \nWe hope to see you all there! \nRSVP here!
