SUMMARY:Judicial & Legislative Reception
DESCRIPTION:In 1998 the Judicial & Legislative Reception was established to salute the judges and legislators who serve the people of our region. Over the past three decades\, it has become the premier legal event in Northern Virginia\, with attorneys\, judges\, legislators\, and alumni looking forward to this annual gathering. Net proceeds from the event benefit Scalia Law’s student pro bono activities. \nAfter a three-year hiatus brought on by the pandemic\, JLR returns on May 24 from 5:30–7:30 p.m. The reception features fine wines from the Commonwealth of Virginia and delicious New Point Oysters. To register for the event\, please click the Register for JLR button below. We look forward to celebrating with you! \nRegister for JLR

SUMMARY:(Virtual Panel) “Industry 4.0: Formal and tacit manufacturing knowledge in technology transfer and intellectual property”
DESCRIPTION:Thursday\, June 15\, 2023\n1:30 – 3:00 PM Eastern\n(Convert time zones) \nHosted Online via Zoom \n–  Visit C-IP2.GMU.EDU to Register for Free  – \nIn recent years\, industry leaders and policymakers have begun to assess implications of a fourth industrial revolution that features rapid scalability from prototype to production\, use of AI and robotics across the economy\, and mass customization of consumer products. At the same time\, nations are competing to attract high tech manufacturing through subsidies for strategic industries and enacting barriers to trade in areas of national interest. However\, the manufacturing of electronics\, medicines\, and other technology products involves on a complex mix of tacit (often trade secret) know-how and formal knowledge that can be protected through patents and trademarks. This panel will explore formal and tacit knowledge in technology transfer\, manufacturing\, and industry 4.0. In a period of increasing trade barriers\, can technology transfer benefit both sending and recipient nations? What insights do we gain from history for the present situation\, and how should policymakers respond to rapid technology change? What implications does industry 4.0 have for the IP system internationally? \n\nSpeakers \n\nRobert D. Atkinson\, Founder and President\, Information Technology Innovation Foundation (ITIF)\nDr. Almesha L. Campbell\, Assistant Vice President for Research and Economic Development\, Jackson State University; Chair\, AUTM Board of Directors\nPatrick Kilbride\, Senior Vice President\, Global Innovation Policy Center | U.S. Chamber of Commerce\nModerator: Arthur Daemmrich\, Director\, Arizona State University Consortium for Science\, Policy & Outcomes\n\n\nThis panel is hosted jointly by C-IP2 and by the Arizona State University Consortium for Science\, Policy & Outcomes. The virtual event is open to the public and also part of the 2023 WIPO-U.S. Summer School on Intellectual Property program.

The 6G standards development is already underway\, but what is our strategy to deter and prevent malign influence in these networks\, products\, and services? What are the requirements for intelligence\, regulatory oversight\, and radio spectrum to defend our country and lead our allies abroad? This panel of US and EU wireless and defense experts will discuss their thoughts. Full details available on the conference website.
