DESCRIPTION:Career Services\, in partnership with the Women’s Law Association\, is hosting Domestic Violence Awareness Week: Advocating on Behalf of Victims.  Please join us to listen to our speaker\, Major Josh Keefe\, USMC Victims’ Legal Counsel\, discussing how lawyers can best help victims of domestic violence\, and other violent crimes.  Major Josh Keefe will address advocating on behalf of survivors\, and also opportunities in awareness roles.  He was commissioned in 2011\, and has served on active duty as a judge advocate since 2014.  He has served in a variety of billets in both the U.S.\, and forward deployed.  Most recently\, as the Regional Victims’ Legal Counsel for the National Capital Region\, and he oversaw the provision of victims legal services for victims of crimes\, focusing on victims of sexual assault and domestic violence.

DESCRIPTION:Please join the Thomas More Society and the Christian Legal Society for a discussion with the Honorable Paul J. Ray on Thursday\, October 27 at 12:15 p.m.  Mr. Ray will speak on “Practicing the Faith and Practicing the Law”.  Mr. Ray is an enthusiast of the Western Canon\, and attendees can expect insight on how to connect day-to-day work as a lawyer to such lofty philosophical frameworks as Aquinas’ Summa Theologica.  As Acting Administrator of the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs (OIRA) in 2020\, Mr. Ray led federal efforts on regulatory reform.  Before his time at OIRA\, Paul Ray served as counselor to the U.S. Secretary of Labor\, and an attorney specializing in administrative appellate law.  Mr. Ray is a graduate of Harvard Law School\, with past clerkships for Judge Debra Ann Livingston of the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit\, and for Justice Samuel A. Alito of the United States Supreme Court.  Mr. Ray now leads The Heritage Foundation’s work on regulatory and economic policy as director of the Thomas A. Roe Institute for Economic Policy Studies.

DESCRIPTION:On Saturday\, October 29\, kick off your Halloweekend with the Women’s Law Association\, as we host a traditional autumn activity for a good cause! Sign up to compete in the 2022 Charity Corn Hole Tournament\, and support victims of domestic violence with your registration fee. Students\, faculty\, and members of the law school community may form teams of 2 people\, with 1 additional alternate player. Registration is open from now until the morning of the event! Anyone is welcome to attend and show their support for victims of domestic or intimate partner violence. WLA will be providing free beer and cider. There will also be a food truck on site\, and many amazing community organizations will be at this event to share their resources with students. We also have several fun raffle prizes and door prizes planned.  Make sure to sign up\, don’t miss out on all of the fun!

DESCRIPTION:SBA is excited to announce the details for this year’s Casino Night!  The theme this year is “Speakeasy\,” so show up in your best 1920’s inspired outfits! \nWe will have tables dedicated to Blackjack\, Texas Hold’Em\, and Roulette\, run by our fantastic faculty.  Our SBA members are hard at work securing donations to serve as prizes for you all to bid on using your winnings from the games.  Past prizes have included Nationals tickets and signed memorabilia\, free garage parking on campus\, and ballet tickets.  And\, of course\, we will be providing snacks\, beer\, and wine to attendees. \nTo join the fun\, you can pay the $30 admission fee by card through PayPal’s secure transaction portal.  Plus ones are welcome—just please pay $30 per person\, and send an email to Cala Coffman to confirm who you are bringing.  The $30 admission fee includes entrance\, food\, drinks\, and your first 100 “fun bucks” that you can use to play the games.  You may also purchase additional fun bucks\, from now to the night of the event\, as follows: $10 for 100\, $20 for 250\, or $50 for 750.  Casino Night revenue goes toward supporting this year’s Barrister’s Ball\, and ensuring we can make it a party to remember! \nIf you have any questions\, please send them to Cala Coffman.  We hope to see you there!
