Upper Class Competition

The Antonin Scalia Law School Moot Court Board is pleased to host:

THE 2018 UPPER CLASS MOOT COURT COMPETITION (UCC)

General Information: The Upper Class Competition (UCC) is an oral advocacy competition in which any student at ASLS may participate. The problem argued is the same problem for which students prepare memoranda in support or in opposition for LRWA III – Appellate Writing, so most students who choose to compete do so as 2Ls (although enrollment in or completion of LRWA III Appellate Writing is not a prerequisite for participation in the UCC). The judges for the competition, as with all three of the MCB competitions, are local practitioners and judges, including many ASLS and MCB alumni.

Unlike the FYC, the UCC more closely resembles other Moot Court competitions. Students compete in teams of two with a problem presenting two questions for argument with a record that includes a trial court decision. Students also argue both sides of the problem during the competition.

NOTE: Students who wish to be considered for Fall Selection on the Moot Court Board MUST compete in the Upper Class Competition.

Date and Location: The preliminary and advancing rounds of the competition will take place at ASLS on Saturday, October 27, 2018. The final rounds will take place at the Fairfax County Courthouse, in Fairfax, VA on Friday, November 2, 2018.
